As President Truitt informed us, the I Wireless Center has forced Black Hawk College to reschedule the date of graduation for the QC campus. Formally changing the date of graduation requires a change to the contract. A change of this type should be done with a vote of the membership of our union.
A vote will be held on November 30 and December 1 in the usual locations. We will vote on the following statement: “It is agreed that the Commencement ceremony for the Quad Cities campus will be moved from May 18, 2017 to May 17, 2017. All faculty members will follow the approved academic calendar. Exceptions can be made in writing by mutual agreement between a faculty member and the administration, in this case the CAO. “
The second and third sentences of the agreement are restatements of contractual language found at the end of section 1.1 in Part II of the contract. You can read it on page 2-3. We have added language explicitly naming the CAO as the person who can approve exceptions.
The Union Executive Council feels that this change to the contract is in the best interests of the students and employees of Black Hawk College. We encourage members to approve this change. Please contact me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Douglas Davidson
