History

History of Ice Precise – “The little team that grew.”

Ice Precise, proud member of the Mississauga Figure Skating Club was formed in 1998 by Frances McLellan as she wanted to continue “precision skating” (as it was known then) with other adults. Managed by the Mississauga Junior team manager, coached by Angie Forestieri and consisting of only 14 skaters, the team entered one competition under the name “Magic Motion” and placed 2nd. Suddenly we were hooked!

Over the next few years we named ourselves “Mississauga Ice Precise” and grew into a full team. Donna Sas and Irene Gryniewski who were two skaters from the team took on the task of managing the team. As 'synchronized skating' began to evolve, Mississauga Ice Precise hit some road blocks in their competition standings. It became clear that we had a diverse range of skill and needed to evolve with the sport.

At the time we also had the great opportunity to hire a new coach; former black ice skater, World and National Champion, Nita Patel. It was like a new beginning. One season after coaching us, Nita encouraged us to form a second team. After much discussion and soul searching, Ice Precise grew to form two teams, one in the Adult Festival and Masters categories. The Mississauga Ice Precise Masters Team (managed by Linda Klarner) in their first year went on to become the Ontario Regional Champions and retained that title for many consecutive seasons! They even went on to win the Aquitaine Cup in Bordeaux France in the spring of 2006 AND 2007. Meanwhile, the other two Adult teams climbed their way to achieve championship success at the Ontario Regional Championships as well as the Canadian National Adult Championships.

Ice Precise teams have been National Championship medallists in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016!
All three Ice Precise teams delivered outstanding performances at the first ever 2017 Skate Ontario Invitational.
We have taken skaters to compete overseas in Egna, Italy; Aquitaine, France, Oberstdorf, Germany and look to continue our tradition of synchronized skating success!

We have grown our program from a group of 14 skaters to 55+ skaters annually and take pride in offering quality skating programs and competitive experiences.

Today there are still members remaining from the original team of 14 skaters back in 1998. We are truly the little team that grew!
