Ignacio Aravena Solís

Operations Research Engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)

I'm a Member of Technical Staff and the Group Leader of the Optimization and Control Group at the Computational Engineering Division of LLNL. My current research focuses on developing optimization models and algorithms to improve power systems' resilience. My research interests include mixed-integer, non-linear, stochastic and robust programming with applications to energy systems, and distributed (parallel/decentralized) optimization.

I conducted my doctoral work at the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE) of the Université catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium), under the supervision of Professor Anthony Papavasiliou. Formerly, I completed bachelor and master degrees in Electrical Engineering at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM) (Valparaíso, Chile) under the supervision of Professor Esteban Gil.

I have served as lecturer in Electrical Engineering at UTFSM and in Integer Programming at the University of California at Berkeley. I have also worked as an Optimization Specialist at ENEL Generación and served as a consultant for Powel AS.
