Volunteer Opportunities

Below is information on more specific PTO Volunteer Opportunities & Committees. If you are interested in helping with an event or activity, contact the activity chair listed below.

4th Grade Coordinators

The 4th Grade Committee will develop and execute creative ways to raise money for the following year's 5th grade Outdoor Education. This includes organizing an event to be held in conjunction with the Scholastic Book Fair in February. The committee may also choose to organize additional events such as family dinner night or family fun events. 

4th Grade Advisor/Past Chair

Assist the current 4th grade committee with the planning of fundraising ideas. 

5th Grade Coordinators

The Committee Chairs plan and execute all activities around the 5th grade picnic, including organizing games, donations and volunteers. They also plan and order t-shirts for all 5th graders and put together an “end of year” video celebrating our graduates. They will also coordinate the selection of the 5th grade picture for the yearbook. 

Beautification

Help beautify Geneva by taking care of our Harrison plot. This includes planting, weeding, and watering as necesarry in the spring, summer and fall months. 


Book Fair 

The Book Fair Committee Chair(s) will coordinate our annual Scholastic Book Fair. This important and popular event earns Scholastic dollars that replenish the Harrison Street School individual classroom libraries as well the school library.  The Chair will plan and execute the Book Fair including coordinating volunteer's schedule, working with teachers, librarian, students, and selected book fair vendor to promote the Book Fair and the love of reading.   

Books With  Buddies 

The Books With Buddies Committee Chair(s) assist in organizing this popular program offered to Harrison Street School third, fourth, and fifth graders.  The purpose of the program is to promote the love and enjoyment of reading by providing an opportunity for students to share interesting books they have read with other students. The PTO provides facilitators during the recurring events throughout the year.  

Parent facilitators are needed for small book discussion groups that meet once a month before school. 

Directory

The Directory Chair will oversee the data entry and management of the online directory. He/she will be a point of contact if anyone encounters a problem or has a question. 

Family Dinner Nights

The Family Dinner Night Committee Chair(s) is responsible for coordinating and promoting a variety of dining fundraisers throughout the school year. These fun and exciting events offer Harrison Street School friends and families an opportunity to raise funds for the school while enjoying an evening out without cooking!    

Fun Fair  

The Fun Fair Committee Chair(s) coordinate the annual Fun Fair held in September at Harrison Street School. This popular event is our most attended fundraiser! Responsibilities include coordinating this event alongside the designated sub-committee chairs.    


Fun Fair Concessions

The Fun Fair Concession Chair(s) will handle all things related to the concessions at the annual fundraising event. Duties include soliciting for donations and organizing service in the cafeteria for the Fun Fair.  

Fun Fair Decorations

The Fun Fair Decorations Committee Chair is responsible for setting up themed decorations for the Fun Fair. 

Fun Fair Games

The Fun Fair Games Committee Chair(s) is responsible for managing the games for this annual fundraising event. Duties include game set-up, inventory and clean-up.  

Fun Fair Tickets

The Fun Fair Ticket Committee Chair is a GREAT work from home opportunity! This chair is responsible for coordinating the pre-sale of the Fun Fair tickets and managing ticket inventory and distribution as needed. 

Fun Fair Children's Raffle

The Fun Fair Children's Raffle Chair is repsonsible for collecting items for the raffle, organizing and setting up the items, and supervising the raffle. 

Fun Fair Prizes

The Fun Fair Prizes Chair collects, organizes, sets up, and runs the prizes at the fair. 

Fun Fair Volunteers

The Fun Fair Volunteers Chair is responsible for organizing and advising the volunteers. 

Kindergarten Liaison

The Kindergarten Liaison Chair is responsible for guiding our new Kindergarten families through their first year at Harrison. Introduce yourself to the kindergarten families and offer to be a point of contact for any questions they have. Reach out when we have big events to help the kindergarten families understand the details and encourage them to participate. Raise any concerns, trends and suggestions to PTO Executive Board. 

Room Parent Coordinator

The Room Parent Coordinator is responsible for creating the room coordinator signup genius, assisting in room party fee distribution giving guidelines to all of our room parent coordinators and volunteers!   

Room Parents coordinate and run the 2 parties (Halloween & Winter) in your child’s classroom, and help coordinate other PTO needs from classrooms (i.e. pictures for yearbook).

School Supply Kits

The School Supply Kits are a great way to save time by providing everything your student needs to start the year off right! The School Supply Kit Committee Chair works with our vendor and Harrison Street School to order and organize the kits so that they arrive at the start of the school year. 

Silent Auction

The Silent Auction Committee Chair(s) is responsible for organizing and executing the Silent Auction. Duties include but not limited to donation solicitation (among the community, parents and staff), collecting, managing and organizing donations and creating the advertisement booklet distributed the week of the Auction. 

Spiritwear

The Spiritwear chair(s) is responsible for setting up a vendor for spiritwear sales and communicating and encouraging families to order spiritwear. Ideally this is set up as a fundraiser and we get some money donated back to the school. 

Sports Day 

The Sports Day Committee Co-Chairs coordinate our annual Sports day held on the last day of school. However, if we have snow days and the last day moves- Sports Day will move too! This exciting event consists of a variety of indoor and outdoor activities designed to encourage movement and teamwork among the students at Harrison Street School. All activities should be coordinated with Mr. Hills and ensure they meet the district safety rules.


Square 1 Art

The Square 1 Art Committee Chair is responsible for organizing this one time fundraiser that will donate up to 38% of its proceeds back to our school! The Committee Chair will assist in promoting this event and work with the supplier (Square 1 Art) to collect art as well as payments if needed so that the student's artwork can be turned into a variety of keepsakes. Square 1 will provide all the tools needed to make this fundraiser a success. 

Talent Show

The Committee Chair will organize volunteers needed for auditions, rehearsals and the show. Other tasks include: ribbon distribution, program creation, music, communications about auditions (organizing a registration), communication to families involved and props. 


Trivia Night

The Committee Chair will organize a trivia night fundraiser for Harrison. This is a parent’s night out event and has featured trivia questions, raffles, silent auction and more. The Chair is responsible for working with appropriate vendors on menu items and organizing the activities featured at the event. 

Yearbook Committee

The Committee Chair will collect and compile photos of Harrison students and staff and help to coordinate the publication of the yearbook. A draft should be sent to Mrs. Pankow for proofing before final ordering happens.
