"Welcome! Conscious Listening is a skill set of making connections with music, with others, and with life. This residency provides multiple points of engagement to focus listening through the lens of piano music. After we sharpen our listening skills together, we can take them away and apply it to anything in life.

"An explosion of energy..."  The New York Times

"Power, authority, and self-assurance..."  The Washington Post

"Her performance was masterly in its strength and authority and was sustained by exquisite lyricism."  The Baltimore Sun

"I really, really appreciate hearing her thoughts about what the composer was doing in terms of the rhythm, melody, key, dynamics, tempo... and about creating new memories together/collectively. It helps me personally to go much deeper in what I'm hearing. Breathing with the music has been transformative - I think about it all the time now." Loretta Cummings, Café member

"How naturally Hsing-ay's acute ear leads to unique insights into what the music is saying, with integrity and imagination..."  Larry Graham, Queen Elisabeth Int'l Piano Competition Winner

How will you weave connections between distinct soundscapes with three different artistic disciplines? Come experience the buoyancy of Mozart's historical Piano Trio K.564, juxtaposed with modern day explorations of space and time, featuring a star-studded roster collaborating at the intimate Klavierhaus. Also performing a New York premiere for viola and piano, dance and piano improv, and a brand new theater scene built on Charles Ives beloved "Alcotts". Steinway Artist Hsing-ay Hsu's Conscious Listening™ approach frames her unique events with remarkable listening ideas to connect music, people, and life.

Chamber Music Masterclass, SAT March 23, 2-4pm
In-Person and Livestreamed.

This Chamber Music Masterclass is about how I use my Conscious Listening™
approach in teaching collaborative listening with my co-teacher violist Masumi Rostad. Conscious Listening™ is a skillset to elevate communication and collaboration. We work on the ability to sense what your partners are doing and to cue them effectively so they know what your intentions are, in order to create a unified artistic vision and a seamless give and take.

This includes verbal, physical, and intellectual communication.

Each of the three ensembles will have a 25minute slot that involves a 5-7minute selection followed by my coaching. For this event, Grammy Award winning violist Masumi Rostad will co-teach with me. There will be time for casual interaction.

To apply to perform, please email a 1 minute video to thenutmegstudio@gmail.com. Limit to three pre-formed groups, preferably piano and strings. Intermediate to advanced level. The applications will be first come first served. I am looking for participants who can perform technically and artistically appropriate pieces for their own level of training, and who are open to learning new ideas. $100 per group, with two coaches, can be applied towards the residency pass. Scholarships may be available if needed.

To audit, please consider getting a festival pass or making a pay-what-you-can donation to support the program.
