The homo-polar motor or the electric motor as we better know it has been in the use of society since the early 1800's. The first sign of a homo-polar motor coming into society was in 1822; by an English man Peter Barlow. He created what is called Barlow's wheel or the first electromagnetic driven device that is able to rotate.
Later on a Prussian named Mortiz Jacobi crated the first homo-polar motor that was able to be used to drive a boat with 14 people in side on a wide river. This was on his second try at making a rotating electric motor; Jacobi's first motor was able to exert a large amount of energy, but not the same amount that would be able to push a bout full of people.
When the homo-polar motor was put into practical use was in 1834 by two Dutch men Sibrandus Straringh and Christopher Becker, built a electric motor that was placed into a model car.
This lead to other inventions that use the homo-polar motor that made improvements in society.
In modern society we use electric motors almost all our ever day items and most of them make our every day live easy or more entertaining for us. In home appliances: dishwasher machines, refrigerators, electric fans, electric blender, etc. All of theses are convinces that homo-polar motor provides. In a regular house you could easily count more than 40 electric motors.
Power plants, oil refineries and mines all use electric motors in their processes. in malls and business building use the motors in escalators and elevators. These devices allows to get around places with ease. The electric motor was instrumental for the industrial revolution and in the building of modern cities. We could not have any building 7 stories with out elevators. Imagine going up 30th floor of a building without an elevator.
Most large modern cities relies on light rail trains or sub ways for massive transportation. All these trains are driven by electric motors.
Modern cars are using an electric motor and a generator to improve the fuel efficiency of the cars.
We have nearby factories making motors for trains and hybrid cars.
The electric motors help build the modern cities and industries, without it we could still be in the 1800's.
