Osmosis was first studied by (in 1877) a German plant physiologist, Wilhelm Pfeffer. Earlier workers had made less accurate studies of leaky membranes and the passage through them in opposite directions of water and escaping substances.
The general term Osmose (now osmosis) was introduced in 1854 by a British chemist, Thomas Graham. Osmosis has helped society by knowing the process of swelling in a vegetable/fruits. Without the help of these scientists, we would never be able to know what Osmosis is.
