INTRODUCTION
My problem statement or question is how does light bend with water?
MATERIALS
laser
empty soda bottle
water
bowl or sink
screwdriver
tape
marker
SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE
Reflection and refraction are the principles of bending light. Law of Reflection states that the light waves can pass from one medium to another and this will change the direction of the light making it to bend which is caused by a change in the speed of light as it travels through different mediums. When light crosses into new medium some of the water will refract and some will reflect and the angle formed from refraction is given by Snell's Law.
SAFETY REGULATIONS
Laser light do not stare into beam.
Be careful while using the screwdriver to create a hole, it is sharp.
PROCEDURE
Use the screwdriver to make a small hole in the empty soda bottle. BE CAREFUL!!!
Use a marker to make a line around the bottle starting from the hole.
Put tape over the hole, then add water to the bottle, until it reaches half of it.
Put the bottle next to the bowl or sink with the hole facing the bowl or sink.
Take off the tape, turn on the laser, and align it with the hole, so that the light will bend with the water.
