Getting Work

Supply Pools and Agencies.

There are basically two ways to get work as a supply teacher. Either you can join a supply agency, or you can go out and get bookings yourself. However there are a few things worth considering with either approach:

Personally, I have found an excellent agency (Westcountry Educational Supply) and find working through them easy and hassle-free. I enjoy the feeling of being a part of a team, and recognise the benefit of allowing them to do my marketing on my behalf. I still get my ‘regular schools’ through my agency, but I often end up taking on new challenges at short notice – which I find exciting!

I have worked independently in the past, and would recommend that approach as well. Independent freelance teaching is suited to experienced, confident pro-active teachers who don’t mind hunting down the work themselves.
