There was an existing shed that I wanted to re-use so as to prevent the Building Department from insisting on a review of the siting of the building on the property line, so I reused the roof. In this photo the only piece standing is the roof, supported on braces. The studio floor plan was extended a few feet to the right, necessitating the construction of a new hipped roof intersecting the existing roof at a right angle. After construction of the foundation, walls were then added. Essentially I built the studio from the top down instead of bottom up. It made for some amusing moments.

What's cool here is the French windows, which I fabricated from windows salvaged from an old house in Mission Hills. The outermost windows were simply mounted into a frame above a panel; the innermost pair, however, in order to swing as full-height French doors, had to be attached to panels that matched the side panels, and in a structurally sound way so they would last. It took a few hours to do the deed, but new windows would have cost much more.
