Stephen Taperek grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. He began orchestra in the 6th grade on the violin and switched to viola in his sophomore year of high school. He studied Music Education at Appalachian State University with viola professor Dr. Eric Koontz.

Mr. Taperek also works at North Mecklenburg High School. As well as educating young musicians, Mr. Taperek also enjoys performing music. He is a substitute section violist with the Union Symphony Orchestra and the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra. When he is not working, Mr. Taperek enjoys running, hiking, and just about anything outdoors.
