Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Q: What does my child need to participate in school sports?
A: All students need to submit an up-to-date physical for the 2026-2027 school year to be eligible to try out for any sport, as well as insurance coverage for their child. If you do not have primary insurance, click on our "Student-Athlete Insurance" tab on the left side of this website, or see more information below. A child CANNOT try out without their forms being submitted first. The form must be the VHSL Physical Form that all 6th-12th-grade athletes are using (Athletic Forms). A student's physical is valid for 14 months after the date of the healthcare official's signature.
Additional forms that must be completed before tryouts are: 1) Student Activities Contract, 2) Student Athlete Concussion Policy, 3) Student Athlete Heat-Related Illness Policy, 4) Student Athlete Sudden Cardiac Arrest Policy, which can also be e-signed in PowerSchool's Parent Portal.
Q: What if my child got their physical done last school year? Can they still use it this year?
A: All student physicals are valid 14 months after the date they are signed by a health care practitioner on page 3. For example, if your child had their physical completed on 05/01/2026, their physical would be valid through 07/01/2026. If the date on a student's physical is 14 months or older from the current date, it has expired, and the student is ineligible.
Q: Where do I turn in my child's forms when they are complete?
A: All forms can be turned in to the school's front office or brought to Mr. Metcalfe in room 2712.
Q: What if I don't have insurance for my student?
A: Henrico County offers K-12 Student Accident Insurance for student-athletes for whatever sport they play during the school year. For more information on how to enroll, visit our Student-Athlete Insurance page.
Q: What are the tryout dates for the 2025-2026 season?
A:
Fall Sports
Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball, and Girls Tennis: Thursday, August 27th, 2026
Winter Sports
Boys Basketball, Wrestling: Thursday, November 12th 2026
Gymnastics: Thursday, January 28th, 2027
Spring Sports
Baseball, Softball, Girls Soccer, Track, and Boys Tennis: Monday, March 17th, 2027

Q: How many students make it on each team?
A: Sports vary by roster size, so there isn't a one-size-fits-all. Cuts are made during tryouts, so not every student trying out is guaranteed a spot on the team. The coaches make the decisions based on attitude, skill level, and the number of spots they need to fill. All student-athletes must try out each season, regardless of whether they made the team the previous year.
Q: What time are the practices and games?
A: Practices begin right after school and end between 5:15-5:30 PM, depending on the sport. Coaches will cover these specific details in their parents/players meetings. All games will start at 5:00 PM unless otherwise noted on the Game Schedules page.
