THEATER TECH CREW
THEATER TECH CREW
SO YOU LIKE "TECH STUFF", and you want to practice your skills as a "TECHIE"?.......
There are two ways to get involved with Howard Tech:
1) Take a Theatre class during the school day & learn about all aspects of Theatre, including Design (we do a lot of set painting during class before the big shows!)
2) Ask Mr Canuelle to join a Tech Crew for the after school theatre productions- Email him to express interest ASAP- spots backstage for tech crew fill up very fast.
QUESTION: HOW CAN I BE A PART OF A TECH CREW FOR THEATRE?
ANSWER: Start by meeting Mr. Canuelle. Speak to him after class, or if you aren't currently in a class, stop by his room & introduce yourself, and send a follow up email to ryan_canuelle@hcpss.org
Mr Canuelle takes applications from all students to work on a "Tech Crew" for each specific Theatre production on a case-by-case basis. Each after school theatre play & musical production has a "Behind the Scenes" backstage team that is made up of several tech crews, varying per production.
1) Run Crew- 10-15 students per show- Time commitment HIGHEST- Must be present for every single tech rehearsal, dress rehearsal & performance. Move sets on/off between scenes.
2) Makeup & Costume Crew- 2-3 students per show- Time commitment HIGH- Assist actors with makeup, wigs, costumes.
3) Lighting Crew- 3 Person team only- Time commitment HIGHEST- Run the lighting board for the shows and a new Spotlight position!
4) Set Build & Painting Crew- 30 students per show- Time commitment LOW - Come to as many or as few set building & painting days as you are able to attend.
5) Sound Crew- 2 person team only- Run wireless mics & audio effects from the sound board. Time commitment HIGHEST.
6) Marketing Crew- 3 person team- run marketing campaigns for each show, advertise ticket sales & sneak peeks of rehearsal to get the community excited to attend, build audience turnout.
7) Props Crew - 5 person team- commitment is as Mr. Canuelle sees fit, varies HEAVILY depending on the show, most work is done in the in-school tech class so look into joining that class if props interest you!
8) Stage Managing - 3 people MAX (one head, two assistants)- Time commitment HIGHEST - as soon as tech elements are introduced into rehearsals the stage managers have mandatory attendance unless otherwise notified. Leadership, time management, and organization are needed skills for this position!
