To ensure the safety of the students and faculty, the static motor tests will be conducted with Friends of Amateur Rocketry Inc. (FAR). FAR is a nonprofit organization located in the Mojave Desert that helps promotes STEMS education through amateur rocketry, including the developing and testing experimental motors. FAR has pyrotechnic operators licensed by the California State Fire marshal and the ATF to help safely manufacture, store, set up, and test motors. FAR also operates under necessary local, state, and federal licenses.
In the case that a motor test is performed at a venue other than FAR, a set of safety procedures and protocols will be developed to ensure safety during the static tests of motors. These rules will comply to standard launch safety guidelines, relevant laws, and include the following restrictions:
All experiments and motor testing will be in a secure location.
The tests will operate under the supervision of experienced faculty member(s).
The test bed will be shielded to ensure safety in the case of catastrophic motor failure.
