Introduction

The Ly lab at city University of Hong Kong is currently focusing on the emergent two-dimensional materials and their novel applications. We are striving to understand the basic science behind the structures, synthesis, processing, characterizations and applications of these materials. We hope through our effort, the properties of "new" materials can be properly tailored for key applications whereas "old" materials can be endowed with new life!

"Born in Vietnam to ethnically Chinese parents, studied for a combined master’s and doctorate in South Korea, working in Hong Kong, married to a fellow scientist from mainland China, and counting Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean as well as English among her languages, Dr Ly has developed in an international perspective, in terms of academic background and life.  In Sungkyunkwan University of Suwon, Korea, Dr Ly nurtured a passion for materials science from her expert supervisor Prof Lee Young Hee, especially in areas such as carbon-based materials, carbon nanotubes, graphene, nanomaterials, and so forth. "In their previous research, Dr Ly and her team developed novel methods of controlling the growth, modification and properties of 2D materials. They have also developed an in-depth understanding of the defects in 2D materials and the linkage between interfaces and electrical transport properties. The team has also mastered high-quality 2D material large-area transfer technology. With the support of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund, Dr Ly will continue to focus on the preparation, assembly and characterization of 2D materials and 2D material interfaces to support the development of a new generation of electronic and optoelectronic devices.
