Sixty Four Hillsborough Members and Guests gathered together at a Private Club in San Jose to celebrate a unique MONDIALE featuring the wines of Roberts + Rogers Winery of St Helena.
During the event Roger Louer Proprietor of R + R Winery introduced each wine visiting each table.
Each wine had a carefully created course to highlight its nuances. Accomplished Chef Jack Kalustian prepared and described each dish during the event.

The Venue
The Club was built in 1893 by San Francisco Mayor and Senator from California, James Phelan, whom lived in Villa Montalvo. Designed by A. Page Brown, the building has unusual ornamental brick detailing. Architecturally speaking the neighborhood houses represent some of the best examples of Italianate, Stick-Eastlake, and Queen Anne styles popular between the 1870s and 1890s.
The Chef
Executive Chef Jack Kalustian will be preparing a special menu for our Chaine dinner (attached). Chef Jack started his professional career graduating with honors from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Prior to SCC, Chef Jack held the top position at both the Sutter Club in Sacramento and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Balboa. If this isn’t enough, Chef Jack is truly a “Culinary Rock Star”, catering for the Prince of Norway, British Royalty, President Biden, George Schultz, Governor Schwarzenegger, Dusty Baker, numerous rock stars, and numerous California wineries. To say that we are looking forward to experiencing Chef Jack’s culinary magic would be an understatement.

The Roberts+ Rogers Wines
We are delighted to be pairing Chef Jack’s menu with Roberts + Rogers (R+R) wines and we are privileged to have Roger Louer, a principal in the winery, joining us to discuss his wines. R+R’s winemaker since 2004 has been Barry Gnekow, a Davis graduate with prior experience at J. Lohr Vineyards and Hahn Estates. R+R’s outstanding wines have received high ratings and numerous awards and medals. We will be pouring the R+R Sonoma Chardonnay, Dry Creek Zinfandel and Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit for the flagship Cabernet comes from Roger’s 32 acre estate in a prime Napa location just north of St. Helena. The entrée pairing will include both the current 2019 release and the 2013 vintage which received a 95 point rating by Robert Parker.
