Hillsborough Bailliage selected Jardiniere in San Francisco, located near the Civic Center, for their Induction on February 1st, 2014. This was the 45th Induction for Bailliage de Hillsborough.
Jardiniere is located in a beautiful landmark building across from the Opera House and is known for its award winning French-California cuisine. It was founded in 1997 by Chef Traci Des Jardins. There is an emphasis on organic foods and the wines are from all around the world.
As members arrived they mingled around the gorgeous bar for a Reception. Several tasty hors d'oeuvres were passed. A favorite was cured kampachi on rice cracker with avocado. Terre Secretes, Brut Blanc De Noirs, Crement De Bourgogne Burgundy France NV and Shaya, Verdejo "Habis" Rieda Spain 2010 were poured.
After members and guests were seated in a private room, the Induction took place. Bali Lois Gogol introduced Michael Martello, Bailli Provincial Pacific Northwest, as the Induction Officer. Two people were inducted - one as Ecuyer. Also several people were officially transferred from the San Francisco Bailliage to the Hillsborough Bailliage.
A special tribute was given to outgoing VC Argentier John Roberts who served in this position for 30 years. Dame Barbara Bessey was elevated as our new VC Argentier.
A special dinner was prepared by Executive Chef Morgan Mueller. The first course was a delicious serving of Diver Scallops with radish, leek and winter turf, paired with Dehlinger Chardonnay, Russian River Valley 2011. Next was the "pasta" course - Gargenelli with Charred Octopus and Caselvetrano Olive and Herbs. Coupon, Pinot Noir "Les Voisins" Anderson Valley 2010 was poured.
One could choose a main course - short ribs with carrot, turnip and consommé or Wagyu flat iron steak with fingerling potatoes and sauce bordelaise. People enjoyed either. Both were so tender and cooked to perfection. Big Basin, Syrah "Old Corral" Santa Cruz Mountains 2009 was an excellent compliment to this course.
Again, we could choose our dessert - Apple Crostada with Huckleberry, Thyme and Walnut - or Ginger Pear Sorbet with Star Anise Crumble and Caramelized pear. Complements were given to both delicious creations. Plates of confections, chocolates and tartlettes were also passed.
Bailli Lois Gogol thanked Chef Morgan Mueller for the wonderful dinner and presented him with a La Chaine plaque. Lois thanked the wait staff as well as Nicole Yasinsac, Manager of Private Events for her able assistance.
A special thanks was give to VC Gastronomique John Lund and Joan Lund for arranging the evening.
As we were leaving, the ballet was letting out at the Opera House across the street. People were coming into the restaurant for a repast - as our evening was ending.
