Prospect off the Embarcadero in San Francisco was the venue for Hillsborough’s fall event on Saturday, September 21st. 2013. The evening was ably planned by V.C Gastronomique John Lund and Dame June Lund.
Prospect opened in 2010 on the first floor of a landmark 1889 building which is now a new Infinity “high rise”. Prospect has a modern look in an expansive loft-like space and serves creative modern cuisine.
The evening began with a reception where delicious and creative hors d’oeuvres such as short rib canapé, mini shrimp cakes and char rare Ahi were passed. Reception wines were Domaine Carneros by Tattinger, Brut, Carneros 2009 and Piro Piro Piccolo, Pinot Grigio, Santa Barbara County 2012. There was much camaraderie between everyone.
Bailli Lois Gogol welcomed everyone and greeted guests from the San Francisco Bailliage. Forty members and guests were seated at round tables in the private room where seared day boat sea scallops were served with Anson Mills white corn grits and paired with Capture “Tradition”, Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma/Lake County 2011. This was followed by creamy Burrata risotto topped with shaved Burgundy truffles. The risotto was so very moist and tasty. St. Innocent, Pinot Noir, Freedom Hill Vineyard, Willamette Valley, 2010 was an excellent pairing with this course.
One chose an entrée between Local King Salmon and Filet Mignon. The people who chose either were very pleased with their selection. Both were prepared perfectly. St.Innocent, Pinot Noir, Freedom Hill Vineyard, Willamette Valley, 2010 was poured for those who chose the salmon. Corizon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 2002 was an excellent pairing for the filet.
Prospect’s Sommelier Dylan Peters told about the wines in between the courses. His knowledge and “tidbits” added to the evening’s enjoyment.
Again, one could choose dessert. It was a difficult decision to choose between a chocolate mudslide sundae or a strawberry ice box cake. Both were delicious! A “fun” chocolate flavored red wine, Chocovine NV was served with dessert.
Bailli Lois Gogol thanked Chef Pamela Mazzola and her staff for the wonderful evening. The food presentation was excellent, as was the impeccable service. It was really an outstanding evening at an outstanding venue. Lois also thanked V.C Gastronomique John Lund and Dame June Lund for arranging this perfect evening. Thanks John and June!
