ACQUERELLO HISTORY
For more than three decades, Acquerello has offered an unparalleled Italian fine dining experience in San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood. The restaurant, operated by Giancarlo Paterlini and Executive Chef Suzette Gresham, has been heralded for its cuisine, wine, and service.
Keeping ahead of the ever changing dining scene in San Francisco, Acquerello showcases its brightest young talent in the kitchen as well as with its wine program. “At Acquerello, we believe that refined luxury is always in style. Our desire is to provide our guests an experience of classic and contemporary Italian tastes in an elegant dining atmosphere.”
Acquerello has received countless awards, including two Michelin stars, and the Wine Spectator Grand Award from 2012 to 2019.
ACQUERELLO WINE
This wine list is the product of the passion and dedication of the Acquerello staff over a period of more than 25 years. We find Italian wines to be some of the most fascinating in the world. Despite a rich history, Italy has seen even more growth and development in recent years. The effect is a diverse selection of wines, ranging in style from the steadfast defenders of tradition to the young producers pushing the envelope to achieve new and exciting results.
While we represent every region in Italy, our focus is Piemonte, a region that offers some of Italy's most elegant and complex red wines. The Nebbiolo grape is the most important in the region. It is a majestic varietal, unique in being high in both tannin and acidity. This balance between power and finesse is an ideal match for our cuisine, which combines the rustic traditions of Italy with the purity and creativity of contemporary cooking.
Since opening in 1989, we have been fortunate to explore most of the best wines of Italy, California and Champagne, many of which have been presented to us by the producers themselves. In doing so, we have always striven to achieve a balance by embracing the classics while continuing to search for new and exciting wines.
Our list is a tribute to the growers and winemakers whose imagination and commitment affords us the opportunity to represent these great wines, and to share them and their individual characteristics and stories with our guests.
