HIGHWAYS HILLWALKING CLUB EDINBURGH
The Highways Hillwalking Club's Sunday bus leaves from Waterloo Place usually at 07.30am with various pick- up points towards the city limits although pick-ups may be made elsewhere on route by arrangement with the bus convener. Normally the plan is to return for 8.30pm.
Members usually form their own groups and determine their own routes and are responsible for their own safety and for returning on time in order to meet the bus.
While previous experience is not essential a reasonable degree of fitness is required. Novices would be expected to join one of the groups and have the opportunity to learn basic navigation skills using compass and map.
We are a fairly relaxed club and do not have much in the way of rules. On the way home a stop is usually made for a quick drink and fish and chips.
New members are always welcome. Bring full waterproofs, a packed lunch and in wintertime an ice axe and crampons if the weather requires them. A change of clothing and a towel may make life more comfortable. Contact the Secretary for more information. Dogs are not, however, allowed on the bus due to restrictions set by the bus owner.
CLUB WEEKENDS
In addition to the regular monthly walk, the club usually organises three long weekend walks to places further afield.
Accommodation is usually in hostel type accommodation, chalets or B&B, depending on location.
“DISORGANISED” GROUP
The Disorganised Group is open to any member interested in more frequent away trips than those offered by the Club.
The group meet centrally in Edinburgh on a monthly basis when weekends away are planned.
In past years trips to several European locations have been made, including : The Swiss Alps, the Polish Tatra mountains and to Andorra.
