We are always looking for new opportunities to serve and help others. These are some of the projects we carry out on a regular basis.
Gleaner Cans - Silver for Children - We encourage our members to collect change thoughout the year. We donate the funds from these once a year. If the can if filled with "silver" change then it will result in approximately 65.00
Commodities Drive - Our members bring in specific items requested by Potter Children's Home annually. This year we have been asked to collect the following:
Conditioner
Soy Sauce
Pancake Mix
Cream of Chicken Soup
Frosted Flakes
Members are also asked to donate funds to be used for perishable items.
Thanksgiving Baskets - Each year our members supply items for food boxes to be given to families in need at Hickerson Elementary School. This past year we were able to help 16 families with these boxes. Each box typically contains about 20 items of food for a complete Thanksgiving meals as well as a supply of food items that every family can use throughout the holidays
Christmas Gifts for Residents & Staff of Legacy Nursing Home and Rehab - Our members donate items to give to residents and to make gift bags for the staff. We alternate each year between giving the residents blankets and gripper socks. This year we had gifts for 59 residents and 60 Staff members.
Emergency Supplies for Haven of Hope serving victims of Domestic Violence - Our members collect items that women may need if they have had to leave their homes and move into our local domestic violence shelter. We fill purses donated with these items.
Dorcas Day (Clothing Drive / Give-Away) - Every few years we try to host a clothing give-away. At our last Dorcas Day in the summer of 2023, we gave clothing, shoes and coats of all sizes from infant through adult to over 50 families in our area.
Stuffed Animal Drive - Every few years we collect small stuffed animals to be given to our local fire department and police department to be given to children they encounter in a crisis situation.
Pay It Forward February - While we encourage our members to do good throughout the year, we use February to emphasize the idea of individual direct benevolence. We ask that everyone strive to do something for someone individually each week during the month. It may be buying someone's food behind you in the drive through, filling up someone's tank at the gas station, buying flowers for a single elderly person or whatever creative way we can find to demonstrate "the Joy of Giving".
Missionary in Budapest Hungary: Curry Montague We periodically send support to Br. Curry Montague as we are able. The work he does is under the oversight of Somerville Church of Christ.
