Members’ service times range from those who served shorter periods to those who retired after 20 or more years. The HSMC also welcomes Associate Members from outside the community. No dues are charged to become a member of the HSMC. The HSMC is an IRS approved 501 (c) (3) Public Charity.
HISTORY - The Heritage Shores Military Club was formed on October 27, 2010 by John Barr, MSG (Retired) New Jersey Army National Guard and Lawrence 'Tazz' Tassone, MSgt (Retired) United States Air Force.
PURPOSE – The HSMC was established to foster comradeship among all residents of Heritage Shores who have honorably served this nation. Our focus and commitment is Veterans helping Veterans. To that end, we do all we can to support Veterans in Sussex County Delaware and the surrounding area. That support is in the form of volunteer efforts and donations to Veteran Organizations who themselves work to help and support veterans. Additionally, we take a leadership role for the town of Bridgeville in organizing and supporting the observance of national holidays set aside to honor past and serving members of the U.S Armed Forces and ensure appropriate observance of Service-specific birthdays. Finally, we provide a forum for passing information relating to Veterans Administration benefits and veteran-oriented legislation being discussed at the state or federal level for our members and the wider community.
MEETINGS - The club meets at 10:00 Hours (10 AM) the first Wednesday of each month at the Heritage Shores Clubhouse. The meetings last about one hour and usually consist of a speaker on various Military/Veteran related subjects. If the meeting date for a particular month has to be changed the membership will be notified by e-mail and/or phone or updated Web site.
FINANCIAL STATUS - The HSMC maintains a checking account which is overseen by the Treasurer and Chairman and reported to the membership at the monthly meetings. All expenditures over $50.00 require the recommendation of the Financial Expenditure Committee and a vote by a majority of the membership.
FUND RAISING - The HSMC holds fund raising activities/events to help fund efforts to support our Nation’s Veterans. All proceeds raised are used for that purpose.
SUPPORT THROUGH VOLUNTEER WORK AND/OR DONATIONS - The HSMC supports Veteran Organizations and individual Veterans in Sussex County and the State of Delaware. Exceptions are made under special circumstances, e.g. providing donations to help Veterans, National Guard members and their families in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico after the devastating hurricanes in 2017.
