May 2: Finding Absolute/Relative Maximums and Minimums

Notes:

Local/Relative Maximum- a turning point higher than all nearby points (concave down)

Local/Relative Minimum- a turning point lower than all nearby points (concave up)

Absolute Maximum- the highest maximum

Absolute Minimum- the lowest minimum

How to find a maximum or minimum on your calculator:

1. Graph on calculator and trace to the max or min

2. After graphing, go to calc on your calculator

select either max or min

go left of the max/min and press enter

go right of the max/min and press enter

you will get a guess, press enter and it will calculate the max/min for you
