Dr. Hemant A. Patil received B.E. degree from North Maharashtra University (NMU), Jalgaon, India, in 1999, M.E. degree from Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University (SRTMU), Nanded, India, in 2000 and Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India, in 2006. During February 2007-March 2012 he served as Assistant Professor and as Associate Professor during March 2012- September 2016, currently he is professor since October-2016 at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT) Gandhinagar, India.

Prof. Patil is a member of IEEE, IEEE Signal Processing Society, IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) and an affiliate member of IEEE SLTC. He was the reviewer for ICASSP 2014, INTERSPEECH 2013, INTERSPEECH 2014, IEEE TENCON 2008, IEEE INDICON 2009, SPCOM 2010 and Int. J. Speech Tech, Springer, Circuits, Signals and Signal Processing, Springer. He is serving as a member of editorial board for Engineering Letters. He was also an associate editor for a special session for IICAI09. Dr. Patil has worked in an international project (involving partners from India, Italy and Germany), viz., Cultural Dimensions in Digital Multimedia Security (Culture Tech) during 2004-2006. He has received IBM travel grant to present a research paper published in LNCS 3316, Springer. His student coauthor also received ISCA grant for registration of paper for INTERSPEECH 2008 and INTERSPEECH 2013. His student coauthor received the travel grant from IEEE Signal Processing Society, USA to present a research paper in ICASSP 2014. His student coauthor received IAPR grant to present the paper during ICB 2012. He has published around 124 research papers in national and international conferences/journals/book chapters. He visited the department of ECE, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA (May-July, 2009) as short-term scholar. Currently, he is principal investigator (PI) for three DeitY sponsored consortium projects, viz., Prosodically Guided Phonetic Engine for Searching Speech Databases in Indian Languages, Speech Based Access of Agricultural Commodity Prices and Weather Information in 12 Indian Languages/ Dialects (Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) Consortium-Phase II and Development of Text-to-Speech (TTS) Synthesis System in Indian Languages. He is co-principal investigator (Co-PI) from DA-IICT for DST sponsored consortium project on India-Digital Heritage (IDH)-Hampi. His research interests include speaker and dialect recognition, infant cry analysis and wavelet signal processing. Recently, he has received DST Fast Track Award for Young Scientists from DST for Development of Source and System Features for Infant Cry Analysis. He has supervised 17 M.Tech. Thesis and 10 masters thesis are ongoing under his supervision. He is also supervising 5 doctoral students.

His research interests include Speech Processing, Pattern Recognition, Voice Biometrics (Speaker Recognition), Wavelet-based Signal Processing, Infant Cry analysis. He has coedited a book with Dr. Amy Neustein (Editor-in-Chief, IJST, Springer-Verlag) on Forensic Speaker Recognition: Law Enforcement and Counter-Terrorism, Springer-Verlag, New York, USA published in Oct. 2011. Presently, he is editing a book and coediting another book in speech technology for medical-domain.

Dr. Patil has taken the lead role in organizing CEP workshop on Speech Signal Processing on Oct. 14, 2014 and CEP Workshop on TTS during June 16-18, 2014 at DA-IICT Gandhinagar. He has also organized project progress review meeting at DA-IICT Gandhinagar for two DeitY sponsored consortium projects. He has taken a lead role in organizing ISCA supported event, viz., Winter School on Speech and Audio Processing (WiSSAP) during Jan. 04-07, 2015 at DA-IICT Gandhinagar.
