How we make an impact

Our biggest project is our Summer Program. In 2017, we had 81 primary school students come to Helping Hands, representing all public, private, and religious schools in Belmopan. We had 5 teachers and 12 volunteers assisting with the children as well as three Peace Corps volunteers who came to assess Standard 1 students' reading and writing levels. The numbers for active participants in the summer program are:

Kindergarten: 13 students

Infant 1/2 [1st/2nd grade]: 15 students

Standard 1/2 [3rd/4th grade]: 18 students

Standard 3/4 [5th/6th grade]: 18 students

Standard 5/6 [7th/8th grade]: 17 students

After School Tutorial Program attendance varies as the school year progresses.

Our Garifuna Culture Classes have 20 regular participants coming on Saturdays to learn language, dance, and history of the Garinagu people.

In the 2017-2018 school year we are adding Creole Folk and Contemporary Dance Classes on Saturdays. These classes will be led by Jason Wade, Senior Member of the Belize National Dance Company.

We provide free wireless internet for children and families without access in the area to help them with study and access to information.
