About the Band

The band was formed to provide adult musicians with an opportunity to play with a concert band.  Although professional musicians are welcome, our aim is to bring amateur musicians together for the purpose of making music and having fun.

The Heart of Virginia Community Band held its first rehearsal on February 3, 2014 with 16 musicians in attendance.   Our first exhibition of music was on May 19, 2014 with 26 musicians.

Based in Farmville, Virginia, the band welcomes musicians from any geographic area, but caters to musicians from the counties of Prince Edward, Charlotte, Appomattox, Nottoway, Buckingham, Amelia, Lunenburg, and Cumberland.    Student musicians are welcome to play with the band as a supplement to their usual instruction/school band.

Musicians who have not played for 10 or even 50 years are welcome to join us.   Gathering with a group of people who enjoy making music will help bring things back to you.

Music played includes marches, overtures, songs from Hollywood and Broadway, and other popular music.   We perform 3 one-hour concerts indoors each year and at a State Park (e.g. High Bridge and Twin Lakes) at least once a year, in addition to performing at community events such as the Heart of Virginia Festival.
