A clinic day can be scheduled for Pony Clubs, barn or riding club groups, or your riding family. Ponies are available if your Pony Club members don't have access to a horse or are not confident to ride their horse in the open. It is best if riders give their own Pony Club or pleasure mount a try. Any horse suitable for a D certified rider to ride in the open can play polocrosse at a walk and trot. Ponies and riders that fox hunt, or are able to play novice mounted games are often well suited to play polocrosse.
HPC has a variety of mounts suitable for beginner D certified to confident C-1 and up riders. Riders can take turns sharing mounts. Unmounted skills can be practiced while others are mounted.
Sample clinic day schedule:
9:00 AM —9:30 AM Welcome, groom, tack ponies
9:30 AM — 10:30 AM Unmounted Introduction to racket skills
10:30 AM—12 noon Mounted polocrosse instruction
12:00 noon —12:30 PM Lunch BYO sack lunch or snacks.
White board chalk talk while eating.
12:30 — 1:00 PM Tack up and protective equipment instruction
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Skills on open polocrosse playing field
2:00 PM — 3:30 PM Coached Chukkas
3:30 PM Turn back
4:00 PM Pizza (optional to order) and next step chat if anyone is interested in playing more or buying rackets and balls.
Not every rider must have a parent present, however a designated adult must chaperone each rider(s) under 18 years old. A release is must be signed in advance, particularly if the parent is not attending. Parents can assist by holding ponies on the side line between chukkas, leading ponies in the open when the rider is not yet confident, and carrying water bottles.
