Australian born, polocrosse is a unique display of horsemanship that combines the excitement of polo and racket skills of lacrosse into an action packed game of skill, teamwork, and endurance. All ages and abilities compete on 3 rider teams, picking up, carrying, and passing the ball at a comfortable pace, to advance toward the scoring area to shoot on goal in 3, 6 minute chukkas, for the win, by goals scored.
The 160 yard polocrosse field is one third the size of a polo field, so the action is closer to sideline spectators. Coined "King of the One Horse Sport", one horse plays all 3 chukkas of one game, unlike polo in which the rider must play multiple horses that become quickly fatigued galloping the much larger field. Thus polocrosse is more affordable and practical to play for the amature pleasure rider.
High Grade (A-B grade) Polocrosse is played at speed, catching, throwing, short and long passes with the drama of a contact sport. Players are at battle on the field and best of friends off.
Lower Grade (C-E) polocrosse is for riders developing racket and riding skills and learning game strategy. Equally exciting, supporters cheer on young riders, parents, and grandparents playing on family, youth, and Veteran & Masters teams (over 40 and 50 year old riders enjoying international invitational matches).
Polocrosse is dressage on steroids—lateral movement, leg yielding, positioning opponents, stops, take offs, butterfly turns on the haunches— moves to get and keep possession of the ball and to take it to the goal.
