Wassail

Wassail!

On the Saturday closest to Twelfth Night (6th January) We hold our annual Wassail. This involves parading to and around the orchard making as much noise as possible to frighten off any bad spirits which might affect the year's apple harvest. Songs are sung, rarely tunefully and a short theatrical play is acted, often badly! The Wassail Queen then drapes cider soaked toast on the boughs of the apple trees and cider is poured over the roots of the tree to ensure a fruitful harvest in the year ahead. It is always great fun, whatever the weather!
