I am working as a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Information and Process Management IPM, School of Management, at the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (formerly known as FHS St. Gallen, University of Applied Sciences), Campus St. Gallen, Switzerland since October 2009.
My major research interests concern changing patterns of communication and interaction through means of digitalization in societies, markets, businesses, and other organizations, as well as on the level of individuals. This includes areas such as Electronic Markets as well as all flavors of Electronic Commerce and Electronic Business, eDemocracy, participation, and Smart Cities and Regions.

For the well-accepted international academic journal 'Electronic Markets - The International Journal on Networked Business' (SSCI listed) I am serving as a Co-Editor in Chief (as of Jan. 2015) after many years serving as an associate and senior editor.
Before, I was with the Swiss Institute for Information Research - SII at the University of Applied Sciences – HTW Chur, in Chur, Switzerland, as Professor and head of the institute.
In 2004 – 2006 I was a Professor at the Institute for Information Systems (Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik) at the University of Muenster, Germany, and - during the winter term 2004/05 - at the Institute for Management at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Germany.
Before, I was working as a Senior Research Associate and Senior Lecturer at the =mcminstitute for Media and Communications Management, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland where I was responsible for the research group Competence Center Electronic Markets CCEM and other CCEM-related projects at the =mcminstitute.
During the summer term 2001, I hold an interim chair for Information Management (Wirtschaftsinformatik) at the University of Augsburg, Germany.
In 1999 I joined BRIE - Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy, University of California, Berkeley, as a Visiting Scholar for three months.
In 1995 I got my Doctoral Degree in Information Systems (Dr. oec. HSG) from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
I studied Business Administration at RWTH Aachen and the School for Business and Economics of theUniversity Erlangen-Nürnberg with majors in Information Systems, Banking, and Economics.
Some of my personal interests are traveling, photography, sports like skiing, hiking, jogging, and sailing.
