Other minor updates:
Opening Ceremonies is scheduled for Friday, 8/15 at 7:00pm
TUE forms are due by 5/16. This is required for any paddler taking a prohibited substance. Prohibited substances can be found on the most current WADA Prohibited List.
The anti-doping and IVF Smart waiver deadline will be adjusted as the form is not yet ready.
The attached PDF goes over the IVF overlap rule and position for right-of-way. For those who have done the Distance Championships before, the rules has not changed from previous years. For those who have not participated yet, please review it carefully as it differs from our home rules. Let us know if you have questions. We will go over this in more detail during a Team Hawaii meeting prior to leaving for Brazil.
Some common questions and ANSWERS that usually come up during distance races:
Will the canoe have padding?
No. Paddlers may bring and use their paddling but it cannot be permanently attached to the va'a and must be removed after the race. (It cannot leave residue or cause damage to the va'a)
Can teams re-rig prior to racing?
Yes. Crews will have 1.5 hours to adjust/modify rigging prior to racing. Divisions racing first in the day will have time to adjust/modify the evening before. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY TO THE RACE SITE TO CHECK YOUR RIGGING AGAIN IN THE MORNING BEFORE TAKING THE WATER.
Will spray skirts be available?
Yes. Its use is optional BUT may be required by the race director should the water conditions deem it necessary.
If you have any further questions that are not listed here, you can monitor the FAQ page. It will be updated as IVF receives inquiries. If you have a question that is not already answered on the FAQ, please let us know and we will get clarification.
