Isobel Wylie Hutchison

Here I will add further information about Isobel Wylie Hutchison along with reviews of my book, Peak Beyond Peak and any events.

If you have read the book and wish to walk in any of Isobel's paths or visit places mentioned, I have created a Landmark page which you might find helpful in planning your journeys.

Events

Ullapool Book Shop took this picture and the book sold out.

The last event was at Ullapool Book Festival on Friday 5th
May, when I discussed Peak Beyond Peak with writer and journalist, Ruth Wishart. It was a big audience and a great response.

Innerpeffray Library, where I previously launched, Just Go In.

A lovely event at my favourite place, Innerpeffray Library. A nice audience with interesting questions.

Meeting the audience after the talk

A nice audience at Aberfeldy Watermill where some people were visitors and took a chance on the event. I was interviewed by the lovely and talented writer, Linda Cracknell who has also been published by Taproot Press.

Marjorie from The Bookmark

My home town and the remarkable, Marjorie from the Bookmark bookshop in Grantown-on-Spey. If you haven't visited, it is a must. It was lovely to meet and be interviewed by the talented Merryn Glover.

Reviews

Gabriella Bennett wrote a great article in the Sunday Times Magazine about being inspired by the book.  You can read it here:
The book that's inspried me to walk 300 miles.

"I am so grateful for your dedication to and careful stewardship of Isobel Wylie
Hutchison's writings/journeys. As I followed her walks through Scotland, I found myself learning so much about people and places that I had only known in cursory fashion.   You have given the world a gift by resurrecting these rich contributions to our understanding of Scotland.  Thank you!"

"What a prodigious knowledge of history she had, not to mention literature, poetry and nature. She must have been some woman.
I thought that it was an absolutely fascinating book and I loved Hazel's postscript and the story in the preface of how it all came about.
All in all - a most fascinating and insprational read. I am thinking of following in her footsteps (well - not on the long route to London! Or John o' Groats) but just visiting some of the places she went and exploring them on a micro level like she did, graves, plaques etc. etc.
