Objectives/Outcomes

Objectives:

  1. The learner will summarize The Dust Bowl by completing assigned readings and, based on the reading, writing a letter from the perspective of The Dust Bowl, and posting the letter to a blog site.
  2. The learner will expand upon an existing historical interview by formulating a new question, posting it to a discussion site, and replying to one question from another student.
  3. The learner will create and present a slide at a web conference by researching and responding to 4 question prompts.
  4. The learner will use an Internet map-making utility to create a map that illustrates the area of the Dust Bowl and the destination states of migrants.
  5. The learner will analyze a photo by responding to all prompts on the provided photo analysis guide in complete sentences.
  6. The learner will collaborate in a team to compare The Dust Bowl with contemporary global warming by formulating a position and posting it to the assigned wiki.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the causes and effects of The Dust Bowl and be able to explain them.
  2. Learn how to use an Internet map-making utility.
  3. Be able to use a photo analysis guide to examine a primary source historical photo.
  4. Gain experience using web communication tools such as blog, wiki, web conferencing, discussion forum, and email.
  5. Gain experience collaborating with a learning team.
  6. Be able to compare a historical event with contemporary conditions.
  7. Think of himself/herself in a historical role.
