Assignments
There are 5 required assignments for this module. One voluntary extra credit assignment is available. In addition, Don’t forget to fill in your information organizer. The organizer has three definitions related to Causes.
#1 Required Reading
In order to complete this module, read each of the following selections.
The Stock Market Crash of 1929 (Read two pages)
Outline of American History - The Great Depression
#2 Roleplay
I will assign you a character related to the causes of the Great Depression. You will be assigned one of these characters from the 1920s-1930s:
Farmer
Factory worker
Factory owner
Stock market investor
Retail store owner
Shopper
Banker
Government official
You will play your role in a chat session on xx/xx/xxxx. You should be able to describe your character and respond to my prompts. Use the readings above and your own research to get ready. Look at the rubric on the Assessment page to see how your role playing will be evaluated.
#3 Stock Market Simulation
Learn about the stock market by visiting Orangeopolis on Planet Orange. If this is the first time you are visiting Planet Orange, you will need to register. One of the registration questions asks for your parent's email. Be sure to get your parent's permission first.
Using Yahoo Finance or any stock market resource, choose 3 stocks to follow for one week.
Record your results on this Excel graph template and email to me at the end of the week.
Write a blog post of at least 100 words describing your stock market simulation experience.
Reply to the post of at least one other student. Look at the rubric on the Assessment page to see how your blog post will be evaluated.
#4 Web Conference
Be prepared to discuss this video at an Elluminate web conference on xx/xx/xxxx. Create one slide to share at the web conference. The slide should answer the following questions:
Work with your learning team to create a slide about your assigned cause of the Great Depression. The side must include text and graphics. Your team will present the slide at an Elluminate conference on xx/xx/xxxx. If you wish, your team can collaborate for this assignment on this wiki. Look at the rubric on the Assessment page to see how your teamwork efforts will be evaluated.
#5 Storm Map
In the introduction for this module, you saw the Great Depression pictured as a giant storm formed from the combination of smaller storms, which were the causes. Download this storm map and write in at least 6 causes in the small storm boxes. Email your completed storm map to me by xx/xx/xxxx.
Voluntary Extra Credit Assignment (Not required):
For extra credit, keep a personal budget for at least one week. Download a personal budget spreadsheet to keep track of your income and expenses. Email the budget spreadsheet to me showing the entries for one week. This assignment is worth up to 50 extra points.
