Native Americans
The people who were already in America when the pilgrims arrived. The Native Americans are also known as "Indians" but it is better not to use this term because they could get offended. They lived in the west and they were the Cheyenne, the Blackfoot and the Sioux, for example.
The "Indian wars" ended in 1890 when American soldiers killed many Sioux men, women and children. After this, Native americans had to live in special places called "reservations".
TASK. You are a teenager from the Sioux tribe. You need to write a letter to the American chief soldier explaining how you feel about losing friends, family members, home and land. To help you understand how they might have felt I recommend watching the film "The Last of the Mohicans", based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper. The soundtrack is fantastic!
