Life on a plantation

In the second term you are going to do more research on what life was like for slaves working on plantations and you will also investigate different forms of slavery nowadays. To this end, you are going to read a book called "Jump to Freedom". You will also be provided with some links to make this research easier. Your task will be different depending on which class you are in. Thus, 2º ESO C will design a shared Padlet in which you will have to write down the conditions / characteristics of life on a plantation. If, on the other hand, you are in 2º ESO B you will have to click on the next page (Slavery nowadays) and do the tasks suggested there. The final task for the second term will be (for both, 2º ESO B and C ) an animoto presentation of what "Freedom" means to you. For this presentation you will have to work in small groups ( minimum 2, maximum 5). The title of your presentation will be "Jump to Freedom".

But let's start with music ( there's a surprise! ). Listen to the song, read the lyrics and do the activities.

COTTON FIELDS (Creedence Clearwater Revival)

CHORUS 1

When I was a little bitty baby

My mama would rock me in the cradle

In them old cotton fields back home;

CHORUS 2

It was down in Louisiana

Just about a mile from Texarkana

In them old cotton fields back home

CHORUS 3

Oh, when them cotton bolls get rotten

You can't pick very much cotton

In them old cotton fields back home

Repeat chorus 2,1,2,3,2,1,2

You can look for your answers here.

Now click on this interactive map of the USA and find the southern states where it was more common to find plantations: Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia and Mississippi.
