Introduction

Author: Banksy

This year we will be working on several aspects of American culture. We will be looking at important historical events such as the War of Independence or The Civil War. Besides, we will try to learn about the different people who have lived in this fascinating country, as well as cultural manifestations such as Music or Literature.

This project is aimed at 2º ESO students (bilingual and non bilingual) and its aim is to make students aware of the most relevant aspects of American history and culture. In order to get this objective students will be carrying out different tasks throughout the academic year:

    • To study American history students will be provided several links. They will have to search for information to create a timeline with three major events of American history. To create the timeline they will use Timetoast.

    • To get familiar with American culture and way of life students will read "All About the USA" by Emily Winston (Editorial Burlington).

    • Students will also work on important aspects such as slavery and racism during and after the Civil War up to the present day. To this end, they will read "Jump to Freedom" by Julie Hart (Editorial Burlington).

    • To study aspects of American Literature students will work on a webquest about Mark Twain and they will also read an adaptation of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Editorial MacMillan.

    • Apart from the timeline and the webquest students will also work their technological competence with online tools such as Google presentations, Blubbr, Smore, Google forms, Animoto or Padlet, among others.

    • With this project they will be working the four basic skills when learning a foreign language (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking).
