Those who know Tommy's history know of his issues with farriers.  Unbeknownst to myself or his breeder, when I bought him as a 3 yr old he had been severely traumatized at his training barn. When he arrived, you could not go in his stall if a farrier was in the barn because he would be so panicked he would run you down without seeing you.

As a 4 yr old, after having tranqed him everytime he needed a trim he got to where that didn't even work anymore. My farrier at the time suggested I contact Mike Harris who specializes in horses with challenges. Our lives were changed from that first appointment.

Mike has put countless hours of time and patience to get Tommy to where he could stand and trim him without any issues - one time on his own even when I forgot to set my alarm, lol. He has done Tommy's feet for me for 11 years, and now Tommy has made another step.

Today, Tommy accepted Erin Phelps to trim his feet. She is the first farrier other then Mike he has not gone into panic mode with. I thought her calm and quiet nature would have a chance with him, and though nervous, he was willing to let her trim him and was social with her after. I am so thankful to have a second farrier who operates the same way as Mike, and love for Tommy that he can make this transition to another great farrier.

I can never thank Mike enough for all he has done for Tommy and I, and if anyone ever has a horse with foot issues that they need someone extraordinary for, give him a call.
