We are hiring Ph.D. and M.S. students with full assistantships to join our research group in spring and fall 2026. Our group's research focuses on computational mechanics of materials to (i) elucidate the underlying physics of materials deformation and failure and (ii) design new materials. Currently, we are working on energy-storage materials for high-capacity rechargeable batteries and stimuli-responsive polymers. Admitted students will be trained to become solid mechanics researchers with expertise in multiscale computations and data-driven modeling.
Admission requirements from the department are available at https://engineering.usu.edu/mae/students/graduate/apply. A top-ranked GPA and strong self-motivation are essential for admission consideration. Research experience and/or a Master's degree in mechanics/materials/computational modeling are desirable but not required for Ph.D. admission. You are welcome to provide additional evidence demonstrating your ability to conduct graduate research and your commitment to success. If interested, please email haoran.wang@usu.edu with your CV, transcripts, and GRE scores. International applicants should also include their English test (TOEFL or IELTS) scores.
Meanwhile, we are looking to hire undergrad researchers to join our research group. We are pleased to support and match funds for their applications to the Engineering Undergraduate Research Scholars (EURP), Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunities (URCO), & Undergraduate Research Fellowship programs.
