Hi my name is Alpin McGregor I have been employed for 40+ years in the building industry and with the local council. Having left school at 15 I served my apprenticeship as a painter and decorator and then became foreman running various jobs and training apprentices.

After some years I was employed by the local council as a painter and decorator and through this got involved in the training of young people in all aspects of decorating. My job then evolved into training and setting up courses for all trade apprentices in colleges all over Scotland. This included electricians, joiners, painters, roofers and plumbers etc. Laterly I was soley involved in the training young people looking for work. Because of my background and training I have gained a lot of skills and knowledge about the various trades.

In 2006 I was offered and accepted a early retirement package. After a couple of years I became bored and was offered a position as an self employed estate manager which involved looking after and maintening several properties for a locally based international company. After 18 months doing this the company said they no longer required me.
