It happened on Wednesday, well... I think so. Really I’m not quite sure. I don’t even know what day it is today. There are a lot of people in the street. Maybe today is Monday.
They look so worried. Seeing them really makes me sad. They are not enjoying. They have spent all their lifetime working or studying and they are under stress all the time.
Although perhaps I was exactly like them. I think that I haven’t made the most of my life. I’d like to go back again and change the past.
I have a strange feeling in my stomach… I feel empty. I can’t remember the last thing I did, or if I felt happiness or pain.
Well, it will be better if I start to tell my story from the very beginning. It is a bit long and complicated.
My name is Edith and I’m seventeen. Yes, I’m the girl that you can see over there, the girl who is sitting near the fountain at Piccadilly Circus. Can you see me? I have wavy hair. It is dark brown and my eyes are blue like the sky, the girl in the pretty white dress, can't you see me?… Oh, wait, I had forgotten, sorry. You can’t see ghosts.
It happened a year ago, that morning I woke up so excited. I opened the wardrobe and I put on my favourite shirt and the jeans that I had already bought. I came into the bathroom and I was there about an hour thinking what I could do with my hair but I decided to leave it down. I always did the same.
I went to the kitchen so quickly. I almost fell downstairs. My mum was there, waiting for me and she had prepared pancakes, my favourite breakfast. Soon afterwards I went to Lucy’s house. Lucy was my best friend. The weather wasn’t good but that’s usual when you live in London. I felt so special that day. I was thinking that nothing could be wrong. Who doesn’t think the same on her birthday?

I arrived at Lucy’s house and rang the bell, I was very nervous. Her mum opened the door and let me in. She gave me two kisses and said happy birthday to me. Inside Lucy was waiting for me in the kitchen; she had a huge present for me in her arms. “Happy birthday, darling” she cheered, she went running towards me and gave me two kisses and the present. She looked more nervous than I was, I was so happy; Lucy had been my best friend since we were 6 years old. I opened the present at the same time as she did; it was a huge teddy bear that had a digital camera hanging in his neck. I gave two more kisses to her and a hug. Lucy’s mom called us to go to school. We were late. We got our things and went running out to the street while we were laughing. It started to rain, we got our bags and put them on top of our heads, I was so happy, I couldn’t believe what would happen later on that day. Suddenly the sun started to shine and a marvellous rainbow appeared in the sky, I looked at it and got impressed of its beautiness, it was so pretty I grabbed Lucy’s arm and made a signal to look to the sky with my head. Both of us were so impressed of such beauty that we stood there for a long time, I can’t remember how long. It started to rain again and we went running down the street to get to school.
We were late. We arrived at the gate, “See you later” I said and I gave her two kisses. I went to biology and she went to maths. I went running through the corridor and arrived at my class door. I knocked at the door and opened it a bit, “May I come in Mr Jones”, I said, a bit shy because of my wet hair. I entered the classroom, closed the door and went to my seat. Mr Jones had started to explain cells.
