Nuclear Energy Committee: All group members will share this responsibility. Each individual must be ready to explain nuclear energy and reactions in detail as well as answer questions during your presentation on any one of these topics.
a. What is radiation? How do nuclear reactions work? List and describe the four main types of radiation and the processes that cause them, including their characteristics and their relationship to each other.
b. What is it about radiation that makes it destructive?
i. Are all types of radiation destructive in the same way?
c. Which types of radiation are harmful to humans?
i. Why are they harmful (what do they do)?
ii. Why are they NOT harmful?
d. Is radiation harmful to the environment?
i. What components make up the “environment?”
ii. How are the different types of radiation harmful to these components?
e. How can humans protect themselves from explosion/detonation?
i. How can humans protect themselves from each type radiation?
f. How would a shelter be constructed to protect biological lifeforms from explosion and each type of radiation?
