Shiksha Mandal is a century-old institution based at Wardha, the undeclared capital of pre-independence India. Founded by Shri Jamnalal Bajaj, it was deeply influenced by freedom struggle and Gandhiji. Its faculty and students were involved in the freedom movement and one of its institutions was closed by the British. The nation’s first education conference was held in Shiksha Mandal in 1937 and was presided over by Gandhiji.
Starting with a school in 1919, it moved on to higher education in 1940 when its Commerce College was established at Wardha. In 1945, a Commerce College was established at Nagpur. In 1961, a Rural Institute was established, which offered courses in Economics, Agriculture and Engineering. This was later spun into three different institutions in these disciplines. A Science College was established in 1962 and in 2003, an Agriculture College was established.
The President of Shiksha Mandal have been from the Bajaj Family. Shri Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd., is its current President.
Shiksha Mandal carries on its work of providing quality education, steeped in nationalistic ethos and human values, at an affordable cost. It is conscious of its legacy, but modern in its sensibility. Principles of merit and integrity govern its functioning.
No meritorious student is denied admission for his/her lack of financial resources. Full scholarships are provided to them. Special efforts are made for such students to help them realize their potential. Recently our Management has been honoured with “Ideal Educational Institution Award 2014-2015” from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University Nagpur.
Govindram Seksaria College of Commerce, Wardha is the first institute in the country to use the national language Hindi as the medium of instruction in the Faculty of Commerce, was established in 1940 with the VISION Udyoginam Purushsinham UrpetiLaxmi” (“Industrious and lion-hearted men generate wealth”). It strives to focus on the noble principles of truth, non-violence and service to humanity. It is destined to be a place where nationalism and patriotism, social service are preached and practiced on the lines of Gandhiji and Vinobaji . Now, in its Centenary year has been rendering services to students and society like a missionary.
The span of 77 years has passed over, but still the aims and objectives are retained by G.S College of Commerce, Wardha. They are to discharge the responsibility of dissemination of commerce education, to encourage inquisitiveness in the students to achieve excellence, to accelerate upgradation of knowledge and skills and to promote activities for all round development of students and staff. The college has systematized the feedback system to know the demands of time.
The college has in the Grand-In-Aid faculty strength of 19 out of which 11 are Ph.D. holders and 07 are Ph.D. supervisors.
It has acquired the status of Hindi linguistic minority institution. Some of our faculty serves on Boards of studies to update syllabi. Many students passed out from our college are placed at prestigious positions in the society such as businessmen, CA, C.S, administrators, academicians and counselors. Many distinguished visitors Gandhiji, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lalbahadur Shastri, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, renowned scientist Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar and many more have visited the college till date.
