Refugium

REFUGIUM is a work by Mark Edmonds, Ben Elliott and Jon Hughes. It is a response, in sound, word and image, to the landscape of Creswell Crags, a limestone gorge renowned for its rich record of Palaeolithic artefacts and cave art. Using found sounds and archive recordings, stones, bones, instruments and the human voice, REFUGIUM explores how the lives of animals and people have flowed through caves and crags from the Palaeolithic to the present. The work – two CDs of music and a limited-edition book – are a record of a performance held in the gorge, together with a set of remixes that explore individual themes within the larger work.
