The research objectives of SGCAP for 2012 are as follows:
- Complete the excavations at the St. John's River site begun in 2011, determining a basic chronology and stratigraphic record for the site
- Survey (via shovel testing) selected areas around Queens Park, excepting playing field surfaces (e.g. river bank, sidelines of field, areas around the schools, etc.) to determine extent of Saladoid occupation and any unidentified areas of concentration
- Identify (via shovel testing) the parameters of the former indigo processing facility (see map below)- same area where we had practice excavations in 2011 (though only about ~20 cm deep)
- If time, excavate foundations of indigo processing facility to determine construction history, stratigraphic record, and structural outline
