The Greenwood Soup Kitchen Ministry serves over 21,000 hot meals annually at a cost of about $2.95 per meal. On average, our total complement of over 100 volunteers serves 75 - 95 guests per day. Many ingredients for the soup and hot meals we prepare are bought locally or contributed by local supermarkets, restaurants, churches and individuals. Our “cost per meal” includes the purchase of paper products - soup bowls, cups, plates, napkins, etc., and there are also costs for items such as rent, insurance, equipment repairs, and dining room “heavy” cleaning. Thus, the overall cash cost of operating the Soup Kitchen for one year is about $80,000.00. We are an ALL-VOLUNTEER AGENCY, meaning there are no salaries or fees paid to any of our helpers. This money comes from the generosity of area businesses, churches, civic organizations, foundations, individuals and our annual “Empty Bowls” fundraiser. These same groups and individuals often collect canned goods for our use and many local restaurants donate their “excess” prepared food to help feed our guests. The Soup Kitchen is appreciative of all the support provided by our Greenwood neighbors, whether it be money, food, your time, or your prayers.
We are a federally registered 501 (c)(3)
Corporation, therefore, all gifts to the
Greenwood Soup Kitchen are tax deductible.
