We are currently renovating the cemetery and surrounds which includes replacing some of the fencing around the perimeter.
Bishop David recently visited us to consecrate the new extension to the west of the existing cemetery.
St.Leonard’s cemetery was coming close to capacity and we were very kindly given a gift of land by Mr and Mrs Goddard to facilitate an extension. On Monday 3rd October Bishop David of Basingstoke, Diocese of Winchester came to perform the Consecration of the land along with our new vicar, Reverend Philli Good.
The Consecration is not something any of us have seen before, as most new cemeteries are now opened by Councils. During the short consecration service, Bishop David walked the perimeter of the land to be consecrated and this land will now forever be part of St Leonard’s cemetery.
It was a joyous community gathering, where we all enjoyed tea and cake following the ceremony. We are so very grateful for the generous donations we have received for the cemetery; these have allowed us to install a new fence near the car park and replace the old one on the north side as well as plant spring bulbs so that we can continue to enjoy this peaceful place which has a glorious view of Quarley Hill.
