Revision of Scientific Documents
What do we do?
Scientific editing, revision and proofreading of technical or scientific documents, particularly in the areas of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Biology and Forestry.
Who are we?
Graça Oliveira is a Portuguese biologist, who has worked as an ecology researcher (PhD) in Portugal and Spain since 1987, having as many years of experience as a non-professional science editor. She is the author of many scientific articles.
Steve Houghton is a British civil engineer, specialised in solid waste management and wastewater treatment, with 15 years’ experience of revising scientific articles in the fields of plant biology, ecology and environmental engineering.
Who are our clients?
Mainly academics and researchers whose native language is not English
Authors who need a fresh-reader to revise their documents, improving grammar, structure, clarity, brevity and consistency
Authors who have insufficient time or skills to check text and formatting, especially to meet special requirements of scientific journals and institutions.
What can we do for you?
Help you to improve your documents, according to your specific needs:
Basic editing (typos, spelling, grammar, punctuation, terminology, document formatting)
Revision for structure, clarity, brevity and consistency
Checking of cross references (text vs. figures, tables, cited bibliography)
English revision by a native speaker.
You can find some examples of articles revised by us on this page.
What kind of documents?
Manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, academic documents (e.g. theses, presentations), technical guidelines, project proposals, etc.
Documents covering scientific areas other than those mentioned above (or non-scientific issues) may be also considered for revision.
Documents in English or Portuguese. We can also revise the content of documents in Spanish, Catalan or French.
We prefer original documents as .docx, .doc , .pdf or .rtf, but other formats may be accepted; for corrections we typically use the MS Word’s “Track changes” facility.
How do we work?
First, we evaluate the size, type and language standard of your document. According to the levels of revision needed, your deadlines, and the amount of work required, we will propose a price. If you accept it, the revision process will be started. As an example, most scientific articles take 5 working days.
Our prices are calculated on an hourly basis for shorter documents (e.g. research articles), and on a daily or weekly basis for long documents (e.g. theses). Payments are generally made through bank transfer, but other payment methods may be accepted.
What are our commitments?
We will decline to work on documents for which we cannot provide a high-quality revision
We will indicate all changes we make to a document
We will respect agreed deadlines
We will maintain confidentiality about the contents of your documents throughout the process until publication.
