Computer Scrap gold recovery

A story from 2010-

"I have been getting calls asking if I buy old computers to recover gold from the CPUs, mother boards, memory cards, and PC cards. So I decided to buy 10 old computers, break them down and sell them on Ebay to really find out how much gold value is in a old computer. The final sale price on Ebay was only $50.00, considering I spent 5 hours breaking them down I earned about $10 per hour. The spot price of gold was $1617.00 on the day the auction ended. The auction included 1 pound 1.85 ounces of CPUs, often considered to have the highest amount of gold to recover. 2 pounds 13.80 ounces of PC cards and 14 pounds of motherboards. Please watch the video as I have posted it in the auction. None of the computers parts were usable and meant only for gold recovery. I did mention that scrap PC boards could be an inexpensive way to invest in gold if you have the room in you garage and your wife does not mind! From what I can tell scrap computer boards are worth about $3.00 per pound."

Update March of 2020-

"Most of the higher grade CPUs and mother boards have already been recycled for metal content. As of March 2020, gold would have to be over $2000 per ounce to spend any real time trying to recover precious metals from e-waste. I am only a buyer at $1 per pound of CPUs. "
