The Club
Our name on official club documents is:
“KIWANIS CLUB of GRAND JUNCTION GOLDEN K”
The Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction Golden K was founded in 2002 and was one of 8,000 Kiwanis Clubs worldwide.
Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis and its youth-oriented Service Leadership Programs serve communities in more than 80 countries and geographic areas. It was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, Kiwanis International now comprises 600,000 members — men, women boys and girls — worldwide
Golden K clubs offer service and fellowship opportunities for older, retired citizens. Service projects, social events and fund raising events are geared toward specific interests of the club members. Meetings are generally scheduled mid-morning without a main meal.
The main focus of our club as the support of young people. In order to accomplish this we held an annual fund raiser, a Chilli Dinner/Auction. Also we have an agreement with the larger and more formal Grand Junction Kiwanis Club to participate in, and share the proceeds of, most of their events, including Kiwanis Pancake Day, in return from our help.
We had several groups of members doing different things.
1. Golden K members aided the Grand Junction AKTION club, and other “K” Family clubs, with meetings and events.
2. Golden K members made and distributed wooden toys to various agencies to be given to children, they also made and donated furniture to charitable groups in the area.
3. Golden K members participated in an annual golf scramble, raising funds for scholarships, they also played golf for fun after the meetings in the summer.
4. Golden K members hosted a baseball team playing in the annual JUCO tournament each year.

Our Meetings
Golden K met at 9:00 A.M. every Wednesday morning at the Redlands Community Center, located at 2463 Broadway, Grand Junction, CO, coffee, tea and rolls are served. We began with the presiding officer leading with the Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer, song and introduction of guests. This was followed by a formal program. Programs were of general interest, conveying a wide variety of topics, and were followed by Q & A's. A short business meeting generally follows a coffee break
Following the meetings there was usually a group that went out and played nine holes of of golf.
Meetings were lively and fun in a casual and friendly atmosphere. In addition the activities of the club many of our members volunteered for a variety of charities and civic organizations and kept us updated on the upcoming events in community.

Why Kiwanis
KIWANIS is the only service organization in the world that is a family. The “K” Family consists of Builders clubs for the middle school age, the Key clubs for high school students, the Circle K clubs for college students, plus the AKTION clubs for the mentally and physically challenged. If people learn to be involved with service work at an early age they are more than likely to continue through adulthood, and because of this concept KIWANIS will be able to serve more children in better ways in the future years.Why Kiwanis
The average Kiwanian spends 29 hours each year doing service work in the community. Thus membership growth is essential so that this great worldwide organization can help more and more of our youth.The primary mission of Kiwanis is to change the world one child and one community at at time. This mission is being carried out worldwide through the Young Children Priority One Projects. These are projects designed to serve children to five years of age.
The strength of Kiwanis in Grand Junction is built by encouraging more good people to become involved in local service projects and fund raisers.
Cost of Membership
A one-time induction fee of $25 is required.Dues are $15 a month, billed quarterly, (the $15 monthly is for international and district dues paid annually - plus a little for the club).Cost of Membership
Weekly meetings are $5.00, only for the members who attend, (this is for rolls coffee or tea and hall rental).The club also maintains a Foundation account. Which is monies obtained from fund raising events and/or donations. This money is donated to various non-profit organizations annually, that support young children in our local area.We welcome visitors to all of our meetings and hope you find it to be an organization that shares many of your interests. Each weekly meeting includes a guest speaker who is generally talking about a current event or organization of interest to the club.
Our members are service-minded and are united in their commitment and compassion for others.
